Matthew Stum's Template Widget
Thursday, 04 June 2009 23:45

This is a small JAVA application written by Matthew Stum that prints templates for:
    • Body tube transitions
    • Fin alignment guides
    • Tube mitre guides

This program doesn’t have a "Help" feature to show you what to do, but it’s pretty easy to figure out how to use it.  It should run on all versions of Microsoft Windows, but there are no guarantees.

Tube Transition Template

This feature will print a template for a “cone” that will make a smooth between two tubes of different diameters.  The tube sizes can be specified in inches, millimetres or standard rocket tube part numbers such as BT20.

Fin Alignment Template

This feature will print a template that you wrap around a body tube so you can mark the location of the fins.  You specify the outer diameter of the tube and the number of fins, and the program will print a template with marks for spacing the fins evenly around the tube.  This template is useful for marking the location of any components that are attached to a rocket airframe, for example: launch lugs, decals, sheer pins, screws to hold a payload bay.

Tube Mitre Template

This feature will print a template that you wrap around a body tube so you for marking purposes.  You simply specify the outer diameter of the tube and the angle of the cut you want to make in the tube.  You then cut the template from the paper, wrap it around the tube and trace around the leading edge to mark the necessary cutting line.
